History and Cultural Significance
Tilipulo, name coming from the Colorado Shiglli - rope and from the Quichua Pullu - blanket - takes us to the Pre-Inca times, it was a common activity in the place to braid the cells of the agave as well as spinning and weaving llama wool to make various textiles, hence its importance as a pole of textile development in Ecuador.Â
The construction of the old hacienda house, dating from 1720, served as a maquila, barracks or house of refuge for the fighters in the independence struggles. It is a tourist attraction of the city with great historical and cultural potential that should be rescued and promoted so that it can be enjoyed by domestic and foreign tourists who come to the province of Cotopax.i. It is currently a public property, under the custody of the Municipality of the city of Latacunga.
